DAVID GILMOUR RELEASES FIRST SOLO ALBUM IN 9 YEARS
NEW ALBUM LUCK AND STRANGE OUT NOW
(October 10, 2024) – Legendary Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour returns after a nine-year hiatus with his highly anticipated album, Luck and Strange. Marking a new and exciting chapter in his career, Luck and Strange blends Gilmour’s masterful guitar playing and lyrical depth with a renewed focus on ambient instrumentals. The album is available on all major streaming platforms, and physical editions can be purchased in stores and online.
From incredible solos to delicate acoustics, Luck and Strange’s diverse sound speaks to both longtime fans and new listeners, delivering an experience that is definitively Gilmour. The album showcases nine tracks, featuring singles “Between Two Points”, “Luck and Strange”, “The Piper’s Call” and “Dark and Velvet Nights”. Gilmour describes Luck and Strange as “a reflection on the unpredictable nature of life… [and] finding beauty in the unknown.”
The album features heartwarming collaborations, including his daughter Romany Gilmour providing lead vocals on “Between Two Points” and a pre-recorded contribution from the late Pink Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright on “Luck and Strange.” Additionally, Gilmour’s talent as a multi-instrumentalist shines across the album, showcasing his skills on guitar, ukulele, steel lap guitar, and piano.

About David Gilmour
David Gilmour is a British singer, songwriter, and guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist and co-vocalist of Pink Floyd. Born on March 6, 1946, in Cambridge, England, Gilmour's distinctive guitar style and voice became pivotal to shaping Pink Floyd's sound. He joined the band in 1967, making his first big impact on their 1968 album, A Saucerful of Secrets.
From there, Gilmour contributed to some of the most influential music in rock history. Albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall became global phenomena, with The Dark Side of the Moon spending an astounding 937 weeks on the Billboard 200, selling over 45 million copies, and earning a spot in the Grammy Hall of FameThe Wall also topped the charts in both the U.S. and U.K., selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
After assuming control of Pink Floyd in 1985, Gilmour led the band through critically acclaimed albums like A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Division Bell, and The Endless River.
Gilmour’s solo career is equally decorated. His debut solo album, David Gilmour (1978), was well received, while About Face (1984) reached No. 32 on the U.S. charts. In 2006, On an Island topped the U.K. charts and received praise for its ethereal sound. His 2015 album, Rattle That Lock, continued his success, reaching No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 5 in the U.S.
Over his career, Gilmour has earned numerous honors, including a Grammy Award, multiple inductions into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and recognition as one of Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” He also owns a Fender Signature Guitar and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2003 for his contributions to music and philanthropy.
In 2019, Gilmour raised $21.5 million by selling over 120 personal instruments, donating the proceeds to environmental charity Client Earth. More recently, in 2022, he collaborated with Ukrainian musician Andriy Khlyvnyuk and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason to release “Hey Hey Rise Up,” donating all proceeds to aid Ukrainian relief efforts.
David Gilmour will be on tour promoting Luck and Strange until November 10, 2024.
